Japon, netsuke en ivoire représentant Rô-shi sur son buffle, Masatsugu, 19e

 Rô-shi est le nom japonais de Lao-tseu, le philosophe chinois.  Il était contemporain de Confucius au 6ème siècle av JC  et est à l'origine de la philosophie taoïste

 Il est souvent représenté un vieil homme barbu, assis sur un buffle, lisant un rouleau.

 Le buffle regarde en arrière, à genoux sur sa jambe avant droite, portant un coussin sur lequel Rô-shi se tient.  Rô-shi est assis avec une jambe repliée sur le dos du buffle.  Il tient un rouleau partiellement déplié avec ses deux mains.  Il nous regarde avec un visage délicatement sculpté, montrant son livre "le livre du chemin de la Vertu".

 C'est un netsuke à simple imotoshi

Rô-shi is the japanese name of Lao-tseu, the Chinese philosopher. He was contemporary of Confucius during the 6th century And is at the origin of the Taoist philosophy 

He  is often represented a an old bearded man, seated on an ox, reading a scroll. 

The  ox is looking backwards, kneeling on his front right leg, wearing a pad on which Rô-shi stands. Rô-shi is seating with one leg folded over the back of the ox. He holds a partially unfolded scroll with his two hands. He is looking at us with a delicately carved face, showing his book "the book of the path of Virtue".

It is a single imotoshi netsuke.
