Hajime Gen Kozuru, né en 1938, est issu d'une longue lignée de céramistes spécialisés dans le style Agano à Fukuoka.

Depuis plus de trente ans, Kozuru partage son temps entre son atelier à Fukuoka et une ferme/atelier datant de 1847 à Topsfield dans le Massachusetts.
En novembre 2008, Kozuru a célébré son soixante-dixième anniversaire, un jalon important honoré par le Art Complex Museum (Duxbury, Massachusetts) à travers une exposition personnelle. Cette exposition présentait à la fois des œuvres provenant de la collection du musée qui en compte plus de 30 et de nouvelles créations.
 
Tout au long de sa carrière, Kozuru a exposé dans de nombreux musées et galeries au Japon et aux États-Unis, recevant de nombreux prix pour son excellence artistique. Il a également contribué à la connaissance du style Agano en écrivant des livres sur les fouilles et recherches qu'il a menées sur les anciens sites de fours à bois d’ Agano. Son travail a approfondi la compréhension de l'histoire, des techniques et du contexte culturel du style Agano.
 
Son œuvre puise son inspiration de son environnement, fusionnant des éléments de la Nouvelle-Angleterre avec ceux de son Japon natal. 
En 2020, la galerie Fukuoka Mitsukoshi a organisé une exposition rétrospective dédiée à la famille Kozuru, soulignant la continuité de la tradition céramique avec sa fille, qui poursuit désormais l’héritage familial, travaillant à la fois la céramique et le verre.

Hajime Gen Kozuru, born in 1938, comes from a long line of ceramicists specializing in the Agano style in Fukuoka.

For over thirty years, Kozuru has divided his time between his studio in Fukuoka and a farmhouse/studio dating back to 1847 in Topsfield, Massachusetts.
In November 2008, Kozuru celebrated his seventieth birthday, a milestone honored by the Art Complex Museum (Duxbury, Massachusetts) with a solo exhibition. This exhibition featured both works from the museum's collection of over thirty pieces and new creations.

Throughout his career, Kozuru has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Japan and the United States, receiving numerous awards for his artistic excellence. He has also contributed to the understanding of the Agano style by writing books about the excavations and research he conducted at ancient Agano wood-fired kiln sites. His work has deepened our understanding of the history, techniques, and cultural context of the Agano style.

His work draws inspiration from his surroundings, merging elements of New England with those of his native Japan.
In 2020, Fukuoka Mitsukoshi Gallery held a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Kozuru family, highlighting the continuity of the ceramic tradition with his daughter, who now continues the family legacy, working in both ceramics and glass.
